Replied the teacher: "Did you look at our moon? Every month it follows a cycle. It grows from a slight arc into a big shiny disc, after which it withers and depletes into nothingness... then for a couple days it is amiss... but soon thereafter it is reborn to brighten our nightly sky for another month."
Retorted the student: "But the only thing changing about the moon are its phases... the moon itself is still there, still a planetoid circling ours, whether we see it or not."
Answered the teachter: "Exactly", and left the student to ponder.
